Alison Cowie

A creative and results-driven professional with more than 18 years' journalism and editing experience. 


I have largely specialised in regional publishing, sourcing, developing, writing and editing news stories, articles and profile interview for a range of business, property and lifestyle titles – both on and offline.   


In 2015, I was asked to help establish a new company to relaunch a long-standing business publication in the North East of England, which was first published in 1981.  


I joined the core team as Editor and the all-new North East launched in October 2015. Is has gone on to become the leading regional business title in the region. 


The company has grown to become a multi-platform publisher incorporating digital, film and events.


I joined We Are UMi as a Senior Editor, where I managed the on and offline content for the national, award-winning business consultancy and investment centre. 


In October 2022, I launched my own freelance business, Lovely Blue, offering a copywriting, journalism and editing services.  


I have since contributed articles for new digital platform Pattern and  became the Freelance Editor of BW Magazine - North East.

In June 2023, I began a part-time position at St Oswald's Hospice as a Communications and Marketing Officer.

Portraits with Purpose: Continuing Bonds

Portraits with Purpose: Continuing Bonds is a collaboration between St Oswald’s Hospice and Artist, Leanne Pearce. Working with bereaved and pre-bereaved families who have accessed the hospice’s bereavement support and/or other care services, Leanne has created 12 poignant portraits. The collection of artworks and accompanying stories celebrates the lives of loved ones, provides a positive, creative focus for grieving or pre-bereaved families, and supports them in their ‘continuing bonds’ process.

Kevin Beales is selling the dream with MySalesCoach

Serial entrepreneur Kevin Beales may have been encouraged to build a corporate career, but his desire to run his own company – which began as a schoolboy – wouldn’t leave him. He has since gone on to establish and sell a series of successful tech companies based in his adopted North East. His latest venture, MySalesCoach, launched this year and is already flying high, having attracted over £1 million of funding, as he tells Alison Cowie.
